Mine almost flooded last winter and I had a slight panic attack at the thought of the extension plugs on the ground

unless that’s a nickname for the TG rep then ime not sure haha
The buzzing coming from the 3 phase plugs was the most concerning bit

Worse egremont, it’s gnarly down hear no doubt you’ve seen fb, we’ve spent a lot of the last 2 days moving sheep and horses to higher ground

I learnt from my bosses 30 yrs ago, you can't keep everything, every off-cut, every bar end - you soon end up paying with unuseable floor space, bench space, rack space, for the real paying work stuff.

Regular clear outs to keep space free, working area safe, being able to work easily, not step over and around stuff. Not having to shift crap that will come in handy one day, sometime, never, just to get to a machine, or even get to a machine to service it, maintain it.

The day you trip over that odd bit of stock on the floor, carrying something heavy/expensive/sharp and end up off work with serious injury is a day too late . . .

It sounds so simple and easy when you put it like that, trouble is you just know your going to chuck stuff away that your going to need next week!

I am trying and it’s incredibly hard to adopt a lean workshop approach. I work now and again for a guy who’s into the 5s model (google it, it’s a Japanese thing) and it works well for him but his company doesn’t do a variety of stuff.

I am trying with this lean approach and it works but it’s a different mindset. It also has to be balanced with the need to keep things I can’t get at 5 minutes notices that may come in handy but once in a while and people expect you to keep. It’s hard but something has to happen to get rid of all the **** in this workshop!!
