The old Triumph roundhead needs a special lifting pad but the newer ones have a simple threaded hole for a lifting eye!
Having said that mine was lifted by the chuck and did it no harm at all. Runout less than half a thou without even trying to adjust anything.

Square head Colchester's aren't very well regarded anyway, if it was something a bit posher like a Schaublin or a Holbrook I'd be more worried.

You sure it is not the other way round? The roundhead Student I had had a whitworth tapped hole but the Student 1800's required the pad.
In fact I think I have a lifting pad for an 1800, not that I have ever had one but got it because it was meant for a Student and then I discovered it was for later ones rather than the roundheads.

Yes positive. The Triumph 2000 has the tapped hole - the Triumph roundhead needs a clamp/plate thing to attach to the bed.

Well I am almost certain my Triumph 2000 (POS) needs the lifting plate and the Rounhead Student I had definitely had the tapped hole. Can't say regards the Roundhead Triumphs as I have never had one.

Ahh seems like none of the Triumphs have such an easy method then!
Mine is also a clamping plate.
Why couldn't they all use an eyebolt - much easier!
