Soooo,

does the plate on my supermig state that I can get 27 volts peak output?

What is the relationship between wire size/volts/feed speed/amps that would allow you to calculate when spray transfer starts, because it really does seem that with coogar 5 gas (93% argon, 2% oxygen, 5% co2), I'm getting in to spray transfer. It definitely doesn't sound like short circuit..

Maybe on my kit it will be easier to get into spray (oerlikon citowave 380) but in general the settings for spray are: for 1.2 mm wire, 26-28 volts and 11 m/min wirespeed...so there's no way the duty cycle on your 140 would keep up with that?
But then again you have a high rate of Argon in the coogar shielding gas mixture....
I really would love to explain this better to you but i can't.... i'm only a production welder myself............

I'm sure there will be someone around soon who can explain you all the technical details of it....

Can't find any tables that show what you need for spray transfer with 0.6mm wire. I think the closest I've found is a table here:

on page 9, there is this table for normal steel, which shows spray transfer beginning at approximately 155 amps using 90% Ar, 10% CO2 and this is on 0.8mm wire.

I wonder if there would be an advantage to using 0.6mm in spray transfer over 0.8mm in short circuit transfer? I certainly don't like the amount of spatter I get with the 0.8mm wire on the top setting!

Yes i know! very frustrating! There's almost nothing to be found on the net about this! I did some research too a while ago when i was writing for the forum wiki......might be interesting to do some more work on that and make our own settings table?

They don't even mention the 0.6 wire....probably it just isn't possible?

I think possibly they don't mention wire that small because of the thickness of the steel it's appropriate to doesn't like the additional heat that you get by using spray transfer. I have found other forum posts around the place that make me think that the spray transfer is definitely what's happening, but just no solid technical details

Wait, look at page 68 of your pdf! there's another table for spray transfer...but it still wont do 0.6 mm i'm afraid....
