Ocv = 56 v

I noticed, a lot of SMAW welding machines has OCV = 56 V. I know that OCV limit for DC machines is 112 V.

Are these rated 56 V in any connection to the limit (2 x 56 V = 112 V)?

I don't see where you get an OCV limit of 112 from. NEMA limits it to 100V for safety issues only.

The lower the range of voltage, the easier it is to do an inverter. So, most limit it to 56V, about twice the max arc voltage.

I found limit of 112 V (to be precise it is 113V) in standard for welding machines 60974-1:

Here is an excerpt:

11.1.1 Rated no-load voltage for use in environments with increased hazard
of electric shock
The rated no-load voltage shall not exceed:
a) d.c. 113 V peak;
b) a.c. 68 V peak and 48 V r.m.s.


11.1.2 Rated no-load voltage for use in environments without increased hazard of electric shock
The rated no-load voltage shall not exceed:
a) d.c. 113 V peak;
b) a.c. 113 V peak and 80 V r.m.s.

my last inverter was 105v.have seen one last week thats 112v,cant remember which.
never heard anything about 56v in particular
