47 extra points for the thread titleLooking at buying a good diagnostic kit <£1K, having given up with the experts. Any recommendations?
I did have Forscan working wayback which allowed me to bleed brakes and do other functiomal tests, but it's MS Windows based and doesn't port well with Linux.Having asked a similar question a few months ago and done a lot of research as it’s not a cheap purchase I bought a Topdon Phoenix Lite 2, very pleased with it, does all of the service functions and more than I need, live data as @Ubique mentioned, also has bi directional functions. Been using it quite a bit the past few weeks, I can finally bleed abs, and change my rear discs with the handbrake service function, it’s also highlighted a DPF issue with the live data which is so handy, you can instantly see and record the live data from any engine component in graphical or numeric form.
I bought it from the main distributor up here, just be aware that nearly all of the Autel, Launch and Topdon etc that you see on eBay and Amazon are not authorised and will not come with any UK support or warranty although the cheaper price does make it tempting.
At moment specifically the old Kuga.Would be helpful to know which kinds/makes of vehicles you're looking at diagnosing.
There are hundreds of options out there, from generic to marque-specific.
The Launch on eBay seems to have more versions than actually exist on their website? All 431 with obsure suffixes. Is Launch a pukka company or a generic term?Having asked a similar question a few months ago and done a lot of research as it’s not a cheap purchase I bought a Topdon Phoenix Lite 2, very pleased with it, does all of the service functions and more than I need, live data as @Ubique mentioned, also has bi directional functions. Launch are pretty much up there with Autel these days from what I’ve seen, a lot of the eBay sourced units though are not to be trusted, they are basically cloned, the software is as well, the same for Autel and Topdon. The Launch on eBay seems to have more versions than actually exist on their website? Doesn't look like the eBay ones are attractive any more.Launch are pretty much up there with Autel these days from what I’ve seen, a lot of the eBay sourced units though are not to be trusted, they are basically cloned, the software is as well, the same for Autel and Topdon.

Whatever you decide on if it’s bought from a UK distributer it’ll be good.
Good luck, I had for years used BMW ISTA on a laptop, once connected to the car it was not hard to use, but getting it connected, com port, latency rate etc, I was spending more time trying to get it to connect to the cars than I was working in the cars.I'm trying to get Forscan working in Linux with WINE, but the issue is getting Bluetooth OBD adaptor to be recognised. It (OBD) works fine with Adroid and Torque/FordsysPro. But those are fairly limited apps.
I could swap out the HDD with the original Win 10 HDD and install it in that, but'd prefer to keep in Linux.
Apparently need to map blutooth to ser com1.
I have a Launch, I find it very good except it will not connect with my 2016 Iveco, also no idea if I can get it updated, the one that seems to connect to the Iveco is a Snap On Solus Legend, seen them for around £1000 used. waiting for them to come down to £500.......The Launch on eBay seems to have more versions than actually exist on their website?
