NVQ level 3 (welding)

good morning all.
its been a rough month, so for all kinds of reasons i think i need to get my NVQ lever 3 done,so i have a very limited clue of what it all entails, how long it will take and how much it will cost.

is their any one can give this weary mind the "fools guide" to this.
where to start, what to do

What’s your experience? For instance I wouldn’t let you on my L3 course without proof of a L2 attainment/applicable experience or ability. Unsure about other colleges but for our L3 night school there is funding available for people who have never done a L3 course before- essentially makes it free

Never heard of that with my local college. Useless bunch though.

Employed mobile welder fabricator, with a pretty good workshop set up. Welding everything from scratch start stainless to Phos bronze rig braze to heavy plant/hook lift gear and heavy rsg with mma and mig.
Trouble is all that is great and ime pretty confident I can weld a fart to a rainbow in a snowstorm.
But I don't have any bits of paper that say I can! And having been offerd a couple of very lucrative jobs that require a lever 3 I think I need to pull my finger out. But don't know where to start

Where abouts are you? Most colleges will run a night class- although not all will run a level 3. We are running it for the first time in a few years this year as in previous years we haven’t had enough applicants to make it viable

Bit far up to trek to our place every weds then. All I can suggest is get onto as many as you can within reasonable distance. This week and next are likely to be the last for late enrolment in most colleges and after that it’ll be another years wait

If your already fully competent and don't need the training then it's worth finding out who does the actual NVQ assessment for the local collages or trying to find an independent assessor who's qualified to assess your work.
An NVQ is a vocational qualification and is about you proving your ability to do a job at that level. If you can find someone to assess it you can submit the work you do on a daily basis as proof of ability provided it meets the qualification requirements and not have to worry about the training part.

A c&g L3 will likely be acceptable in place of an nvq with demonstrable industry experience

I thought to myself...... Oh what a good idea, I can get myself an NVQ level 3, bonus would be I could annoy Dan on Wednesdays!

Then I remembered, I actually already did that, the C&G 3 that is. I could still annoy Dan on Wednesday though :-)

Thank you all for the replies it’s given me a bit of something,seems our local collage is only interested in school leavers going into sella field but I will press on!
