NVQ funding?

Anybody with recent experience?

Trying to get the next stage of my career started and I need to get a level 4/5/6 in construction management

Lots of "fast track" places come up but these just look like a scam to me, lots of talk of funding but no way it seems to actually apply

If I have to pay then I will but it seems odd all the talk of upskilling and funding yet my only option us to pay out £2k

This whole issue very much frustrates me as upskilling and most education is private companies being self employed and likely earning to much you wont get funding.

I’ve done quite a bit of homework on NVQ in connection with a recent piece of work. On face value they look quite good and are regularly mentioned as acceptance of competence.

When you look at where the standards, criteria and curriculum come from it’s sounds really good as it’s quoted that they are based on National Vocational Standards, they probably started life like this many years ago, however I haven’t been able to what what these standards are, who looks after them or weather they are even current and up to date.

At management level it’s highly unlikely you’ll get government funding.

With a bit of research I’ve done on this I’d be spending my money on another approach to achieve the same end goal

Its all a bit of a joke parm the numbers of people holding gold cards without upto date regs is staggering

I may have an option

I can apply for the CITB skills and training fund. I tried as a sole trader but they were not Interested, I may have to employ myself through my limited company.

Only issue with that Is even I dont want to employ me........

Only if my wages bill is above £80k, and despite all the myths we dont earn that

This sums up my experience with NVQs, a good idea, that has been distorted for profit. We used to joke, when they first came out, they were for shopping trolley welders.

Bizzare that to be a competency assessor you dont actually need to be competent. Just capable of repetitive writing of pishhhhhhhh with a capital P.

Coming from the other side of things I have had a very positive experience doing an svq3 (Scottish equivalent) and currently doing an svq4 in construction contracting operations alongside a Beng in civil engineering. The instructors/ assessors are all chartered engineers with years of experience.
