have a large axle nut from a quad bike, the threads on the axle got ripped off, so a new thread was cut, the thread inside the nut is now the incorrect size, is it ok to welder a layer inside the nut, then drill and re tap a new thread, the inside of the nut is between 35-40mm and will be req to torque down to 100nm, ok repair or just a bodge?
have some a simular thing for a brake caliper mount, the thread was damaged so i welded over the hole then re drilled and tapped, worked fine but this is only a small item
