Numpties and tools...

...so the Mig that I bought from my friend had been used by some of the lads working for him, but clearly nobody had told them that sometimes you need to change the tips and nozzles....

Here is the tip and nozzle I removed from it today;

And now with the new parts I picked up from Wellington Welding today;


Silly thing is, that it's about £7 worth of bits, and they hadn't even thought about doing it... hey ho, no wonder they were getting crap results with it.

ive only tried the spray types on materials in welding but use a tip dip for the torch. Get it hot and dip it in. Works well for me

They do to a degree; good for use on jigs, but really you should perfect the set up on your machine to reduce the amount of spatter to an absolute minimum. 90% of the time we weld in spray transfer so minimal spatter, but welding dirty steel really doesnt help however well your machine is set up.

Shrouds last us years, they do get a bit grotty but clean up easy enough. Tips get changed every couple of 15kg spools, mainly because they wear to an oval and struggle to transfer the current, or the wire wobbles about.

Them Kemppi shrouds are pretty thin, blocking them up with loads of spatter and letting it arc out soon takes chunks out of the edge of it.

Yeah, the one thing we hate about our new Kemppi, the torch and tip/shrouds are *****.
