We use a mix of crusher run and road plannings. What ever is cheapest. Tried some crushed brick filling holes, it was cheap, but didnt bind so well.

Last year we were lucky enough to use 20 ton of road plannings on a hot day, whacked it in, works a treat. Only problem, not enough hot days.

And with crusher run, it is always cheaper to get 40 mil than the 32 which is also known as type 1 subbase. And makes no noticable difference.

Need a load more yet , got to scrape about 100 square metres off on my bit land to make it all hardstand so I can spin my trailer around on it ,will scrape it back to clay and use crushed brick as hard-core after first digging some soak aways then put the planings on top ,then I will probably fill it with projects and more carp.....lol

I fell lucky getting the base for my road way & turning area I mentioned in nmy earlier post .. A local demolition company sold me 14 x 20 lorry loads of £100 of old building site clearance inert material without any soil in it . which was mainly foot ways , real cobble stones and hand made brick plus lime based mortars . I borrowed a 14 foot blade ancient dozer and pushed a two foot deep trench 130 metres from the road to the end of my property and leveled out the HGV turning pad

The guys were only too happy to do the shorter runs to get the site cleared as they were being paid for each load removed , the dozer made short work of levelling it and getting the initial compaction done. .

What did get up my nose was some ten days or so later some busybody bitching a that I was running an un licenced tip . Two council officers and policeman turned up ....you should the council officers faces when I showed them the 14 load invoice & 14 individual inert waste transfers to the final destination ticket s.. The copper could barely keep a straight face.
If the faceless twerp who made the complaint had bothered to come & see me s/he could have saved the tax payer several thousand pounds .

So cover your back sand get any waste transfer notes and if possible a receipt ..& keep them ..you may need to prove that that road way is not illegal waste to some smarmy chiselling grabbing property agents conveyancing solicitor who handles your property sale in a few years time . .
