OK folks - looking for some ideas/advice here....
I'm installing a woodburner in the garage for some heat during the winter months. I'm sorted with planning permission and happy with building regs.
It's going to sit in a corner of the workshop but the problem is that the workshop is an extension on the rear of the original garage and there is a plastic water pipe and an armoured cable that came out of the ground and through the wall. These things won't make sharp turns so they were never tight in against the wall. When the floor slab was poured for the extension... Well they are now permanent fixtures. I'm going to need to protect them from the heat so I'm looking for ideas on the best way.
I'm planning to make what is effectively a low (maybe 18") table from an odd sized paving flag and a steel frame for the burner to sit on so the slab should give some thermal protection to the pipe and cable. I'm also thinking that I'll box them in in steel (maybe stainless with a nice pretty mirror finish to reflect heat). I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to fill the box with something and if so what. Possibilities that have crossed my mind are rock-wool or maybe vermiculite.
Whatcha reckon?
Iain
