Well I got out between the showers, found a multi plug by the battery took apart,contact cleaner and back together, and a quick hunt on the gearbox found the two sensors,contact cleaner on them ,nothing changed so far but have nt cleared faults or changed anything, but sorted where some of the suspects are.thanks again for the advice and help guys.Arther

THANKYOU everyone for your help, from my brother and myself, dry this morning so had another go at car, one sensor on box checked ok,other one didnt, but before I spent £244 of my brothers pennies, took apart the kick panel drivers side by the throttle, low and behold another array of multi plugs.....dripping wet!! so took apart ,blow dried, contact cleaner, now the culprit seemed to be a multi plug with bolt securing it as several contacts had gone green, good clean re assembled including the suspect sender and Ye, works fine.
Just need to clean sun roof ,seal it with tape and see if that cures leak entry point if not find and cure leak, luckily its not rotted floor which looks like new still, seems wiring acts as a channel to drain any water straight into multi pin contact block.
So great result and thankyou one and all. appreciated,Arther

Check also in case there are pollen filters on the bulkhead in the engine bay.

I know on BMWs the drains for their housings get blocked with leaves and general debris, causing overflow and thereby water ingress to the passenger compartment.

Glad that you got it sorted - but not as glad as your brother, I suspect.

Good result!
Might be worth getting some silicone grease and filling all the multi plugs with it to stop more water troubles.

Both good suggestions, will get onto that, yes bro is well chuffed just took it for test drive to local auction,about 6 miles each way, reckons its better than ever, so next job will be oil and filter on auto box etc etc, nothing worth staying for at auction except one oldish door with stained glass top panel, but didnt fancy stopping 3 hours to see if I could get it as stomach dictates I ought to eat something.Thanks guys
