In fact, I'll stop being a pussy. I've ordered this, with the plan being to make a mandrel backplate for it. Until it arrives, don't know how feasible the idea is.

CI from RDG / Myford, they sell them for the ML8 it is a bit hidden on the web site but you should find it.

Yes 1 inch 12 tpi and the same register for the spindle nose, just need to cut the register for the chuck and drill for the mounting bolts.

Yes I guess they now supply in a matt black finish, when I got mine they were as you see a dull uncoated raw finish and about a fiver less. They did them in a couple of diameters when I got mine, I got the smallest they supplied which needed about 10mm off radius which I did after turning the chuck register and fitting the chuck.

Tried looking on their website. That's a nightmare. I'll need to trim off around 15mm. This chuck is a 70mm backplate. Is the register a good fit on their premachined backplates?

Just ordered it. Not going to be testing this chuck & collets until I can fit it.

Watch me not have a C spanner the right size now.

The one I got was a good fit to my spindle nose. Yes the web sites are a mess, can't find it on the RDG one but it is here On the Myford site. Thinking that I should order another and one of the 125mm ones just in case but that would be £50 quid doing nothing, though it ain't making anything in the bank so could be an investment.

I look at it this way. I'm finally getting to spend a little time with the lathe, & tool related stuff is about the only treats I buy myself, so why not.

Im currently stripping my headstock for the new bearings, I bought in 2019!
Question is now I have the spindle and bearings out, should I get the headstock off and paint it!?

Had thought about it, but always limited on spare time, (there's always work to do, when one's single. It's never ending. ), so I'd rather buy & use that time saved on other things.

Deffo paint the headstock whilst you have it stripped.

Was searching for brass finials & pendants, the other week, to see if there was anything that may be useful to finish it off, & saw that on Ebay. Made me chuckle, so I had to order one just for the sake of it. May hang it on my van keys instead.

What's the chances? I never bothered checking the mandrel thread size, & they sent the wrong backplate initially, which fits perfectly, so the extra ones I've ordered, which are actually the correctly sized 1" ones, don't fit. Someone has adapted this lathe to take the 1⅛" spindle.

On the plus side, I have 3 backplates for the MS type now, when I get it reassembled.

Need to order some more backplates for this now. The one they originally sent has the indexing holes around the rim, (I assume they were out of stock of the blank rim type at the time, so sent that type instead), so it seems a shame to machine its width down & lose those, even though I'll likely never have use for them.
