well chaps some of you may recall that I was recently diagnosed diabetic, I'm looking after my daughters little farm in Blackburn this week while my son in law does the Sanfranciso "Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon" I know he must be mad,,, Back to the story, went out for a meal tonight, very nice too. BUT a half pint of diet coke from the squirt mixer thingy was £2-50P, that is just plain daylight robbery,When the actual cost is pennies,

Rarely drink with meals out as it aggravates me so badly.

Wont even start on deli prices.

That's normal price for soft drinks in restaurants ect. It really boils my urine as I don't drink.

I always say no when I'm asked if I want Ice, fill the glass with it and then a drop of coke !
No thanks, it's pricey enough without paying for half a pint of frozen water.

I was away from home few weeks ago in Buxton, went to a Tex Mex resurant, it’s very good, pint of local ale was £4.70. Pint of Diet Coke was £5.10

its enough to drive you to drink......I can rememeber going into a pub a few years ago and its was cheaper to buy Guinness than lemonade.....and then when you buy a soft drink for those prices, they assume that you want ice in it so they can water it down even more.

I mean why do they automatically put ice into soft drinks but not alcaholic drinks?

But the lease on the premises. Insurance, plant and wages on and on are a few grand a week though yes?

As a Type 1 diabetic I used to use Lucozade to bring my blood sugar levels back up if I went hypoglycaemic as it worked very quickly. Not only have they upped the price of Lucozade they've also halved the sugar content - and that was what I needed! There's now more sugar in a small-ish (one from the four bars for a pound) Mars bar than there is in a bottle of Lucozade but takes much longer to act.

I refer to it as a 'Type 1 diabetic tax'!

I fully agree with everyone and at face value it looks like these places are robbing us. They will make their margin somewhere, it's no different when a couple of scoops of ice cream cost's £4 I would bet the margin there is even higher. It's also no different from £4 bottles of wine that become £12 house wine. I've always said that if pubs made generic soft drinks cheaper they would fill the places with families who are always going to spend more money than the bloke that sits there and has 4 pints.

Playing devils advocate nobody forces any of us eat out and as an individual you can eradicate the issue from you life overnight. We often do it because we've been busy and haven't sorted something for tea. We just go to the localish Weatherspoons and food and drinks for all 4 of us is about £40. Our village pub does a burger night where a burger,chips and a pint is £10

I've always thought it sad irony that the things that have helped many people become type 2 diabetic are used by type 1 diabetics to level themselves out.

All this sugar tax nonsense is a smoke cloud, next it will be a fat tax to catch those who like cheese and butter.
