Hi guys,
My name is Dan, I have 2 old ish cars. A mk3 mr2 and a 2000 Nissan 200sx s14a.
The Nissan failed it's MOT on sills. The rear sills on them are renowned to rot out. Although I mine are not awfully bad!
So I have started cutting bits out and will start making replacement bits to go in. I have bought the metal and cut out the rotten stuff.
Thing is I went to a restoration place and they quoted me 2k. I went to a normal garage and the guy quoted me £250 which I thought was reasonable. But then I found out he wasn't going to do any fabrication or repair the inner sills. Just weld on the outer sills that I was providing.
I have a range of skills in the car world. Have done engine swaps, and lots of repairs. Just never attempted welding. So I have decided to take the plunge and buy a welder. I only want to spend £150 max and I am currently looking at a Clarke 100e on ebay. I heard they are ok for what I am doing. Any hints, tips welcome
Great forum BTW I already read the beginners guide to MIG welding. I have also been around people who do it all the time. I have also seen the settings guide which will defo help!
