Non-standard tubular profiles?

Just bog standard tooling Al.

I happened to be setting up for some 60degree angled folds this morning.

The bit pictured is about 500mm long, and 2mm stainless.
No different in 3-4mm really, just keep the bottom die and top blade nice and tight so you dont get big horrible rads on it.
16-20mm vee would be nice for 3mm, no bigger.


If you do get it done like that, ask for the sheet edges to be trimmed off, so you are welding sheared edges only. Much nicer.

Hitch - you're not still working over here are you? I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a sample - like those bits in the pic, so I can see it in the flesh and get an idea if it'll work. I might do some post-fab-forge-work on it & would like to have a play before I commit.

No worries if not, I can weld up a section for now.

I've got one that needs a new home, but it is a baby one; 25T, about 1200 long.

Looks a wide bottom on that Karl, is that the big machine? What's the arrangment you have set up for setting the bottom tool against? Looks a bit more refined than ours...back the screws off, mash the top tool into the bottom tool and with foot on pedal do the screws up. S'posed to leave the screws backed-off a bit aintcha?

I'm sure I'll regret saying this, but I'd better hold on for something larger I think - I'd be crazy to buy something that was too small for its first job - seems like things are always too small for what I need even when I think I'm buying overkill...

I always opt for the biggest machine that i can afford/transport/fit in....3m x 10mm guillotine, replaced a 2m x 3mm one, thought the new one was plenty big enough. Now regularly have to get 12mm plate sheared for us.....3m x 120T press..... too small now... 50T Geka, biggest it ever did at the start was 12mm holes in 12mm bar....can't fit 25mm plate in it, need an 80/100T.
Jobs just seem to keep getting bigger/heavier all the time.

Have you looked for smaller MOQ from china? Might be an option?

Rick - well, actually there is, so... I did look, it all seems to be 10 tonne. I think these could be zipped up pretty quick anyway. I'll do a test to make sure.

Biggest downside that comes to mind is that it'd be less of excuse to buy a press brake instead

Absolutely, although it would be nice, JUST ONCE to do a job where the profit wasn't ploughed back into the workshop and something actually went in my pocket!

On the other hand, a pressbrake would be useful...
