Non original colours on rebuilt machinery

I've a Meddings/Pacera to clean up and I'm minded to keep it. It needs a complete rebuild and respray and I/m trying to decide whether it's stays the original colour or gets Gulf Racing blue, possibly with a stripe too.

It's going to look resprayed and there'll be no patina left so originality is not a worry, but should my pillar drill match my van?

I like being a purist if doing it for resale.
If it's for myself I don't care and find something that looks nice to me.

Sometimes I buy stuff with the intention of changing the colours as love the product but don't like manufacturers standard colour.
(Kawasaki green usually)

Its your machine do it in your own colours.
I like light bright colours. My lathe is royal blue. Current lathe project is pastel green.

my Cincinnati mill ended up cadburys purple because the paint suppliers are spuds, but I like it now because a machinist pal is a chocoholic and it sets him off

Shame I didn't see this a few weeks ago.
Cadburys purple would have suited it. Paints already here now.

I'm not overly fussed about the colour so long as it's appropriate (in my mind) for a machine. Lighter colours help you see what you're doing and aid with cleaning and inspection too.

I do like to see old machines in their original colours, possibly just a nostalgia thing. Same with old bikes: Norton Silver, Triumph Amaranth red, BMW black with white pinstripes. A yellow Ducati looks wrong, though still a very nice bike.

In the end I prefer a well looked after machine any colour than a rusty unloved one.

Firstly I'd have to identify the correct colour, all three of my Meddings drills are different, one is a bluey grey, one a light green and the other a dark green.

I’ve kept my Tom Senior correct. I think it suits the colour.

Painted the M300 an off white, and regret it. It’ll get redone at sone point

No regrets here, didn't like the exsisting colour and original looked to be a dingy green.

For mine was obvious in person. They didn't strip and paint but over painted the original paint. Newer paint was flaking off in Areas on the cabinet and some restricted areas acces able only with disassembly made it easy.
Paint for sale labeled smart and brown green was another clue.

Same colour was used on my recently acquired smart and brown too. Again over painted badly,

It's down to your personal taste. If originality is not important then it's what ever colour you like. My self personally I like grey on some machines and green on others.
