Oh!!!!The speedglas isnt worth **** in my opinion. Worst waste of £300 I've ever spent.
Perhaps I wasn't that unfair then.
Why is it that bad mate. Still problems with flicking.

Sell the Eastwood. It' will fetch you some cash back. It's in decent nick.At this point im starting to wish i did some more research before i bought my eastwood. After using Richards machine the other month, i see how useful frequency adjustment is. Might have to consider having 2 machines....hum
Jackson wh70.
Seriously good lids.
Beat speedglas hands down IMO.
There are advantages to it. Welding along side through holes and really tight thin fillets are made easier with freq adjustment but certainly not essential. I've used loads of fixed hz units and they are super and very usable. It always helps if the quality of the arc is spot on like your new toy.Personally, I've always done my best quality alu work on 50hz transformer machines. In preparation for the arrival of my fixed frequency machine today I've been running my last jobs at 60hz instead of my usual 150, I didn't find the reduction in frequency to be a problem at all.

You'd always be welcome hugh but I'm not sure Id like to say I can teach you anything. Your a good welder and would it be worth the trip for you? Always welcome mate.I would like to come and see you at some point for some SS tuition Richard, It has never been my strong point.
Luv ya Boss... XYour one eye is very much up to the task noods
Bad fit up doesn't help at all. You know all the tricks regarding tight arc, gas lens, positive filling and decent travel rate but if fit up isn't good it's always gonna be a struggle. I'm more than happy to arrange and try help but like I say be sure it's worth the trip. You know your stuff. I tend to hard purge exhausts/tubing for a minute or two at 5-6 LPM then drop it to 2-3 for the duration of welding. Results seem be work well for me doing this and I'm not wasting any more gas than needed.I can't find the sweet spot on thin SS (exhaust tubing) and end up cooking it too often. I used to 'have it' when I was at my sheet metal job. Always run a gas lens, always hold a well tight arc but I often have to deal with iffy fit up, and that's when things head south. Perhaps more purge pressure would help?
Nope not far 25 mins from Stevenage.I think I need to look at my purge setup again. I don't think I have been giving it long enough to settle down. We are planning a weekend trip to Stevenage sometime soon, if I'm still having trouble still then I'll get in touch as it would be good to get another view on things. I could probably escape from my partners friends for a few hours and head on over as I don't think it's far to you from that area.
Honestly Richard, I laid some cracking test welds with that machine today when collecting it. I've got a nice little inter cooler pipe work job coming up this week, I'll hope to use this new machine for it.
I saw some of your Alu work on the fittings of an intercooler. Looked really great stuff, certainly couldn't tell it was not part of the original item mate.Ive just done some Alu intercooler pipework , I dont do a lot of Alu but I think i made a good job of it , or rather the EWM Tetrix did !
