No U not V

I've some ali welding jobs coming up soon,will be done with my mig as it has an ali setting,not spool gun,so thought i'd get prepared/practice so to speak
Anyway got wire(4043 0.8) liner,done my homework etc,but the one thing i'm missing is a drive roller,been reading here and there i need a U groove wheel,ordered one and it was wrong,sent it back and got another and its still not the right one,Them that sent it are telling me it is,i beg to differ
Because as my eyes see it thats a V not a U,or is it me?

To save another headache,and i know the answer will be no,but could i get away using a V with 0.8 ali wire?

How does it compare to your original roller? That looks rounded in the bottom, but I'll agree it's very v shaped!

My memory of alu/mig is horrific, almost as bad as alu/arc.

0.8mm 4043, hope you have a short torch and a lot of patience

Roller looks like a rounded V but put a bit of wire in and see how it fits.

I have welded with a V roller before but it is not the best as you don't get a good feed as you can't clamp as tight as you need or you deform the wire.

A pic of a 1.2mm U roller from my EWM but bear in mind that I have a 4 roller wire feed and all are U shaped so the U is less than half the dia. If the upper roller was plain roller the U would have to be deeper like yours is.

Yes i know was being tight fisted on the wire torch is 2mt and i'll just keep counting to 10

How much are the rollers? I'd be half tempted to chuck one on a mandrel in the lathe and put my own U groove in.

£35 for mine,a bit costly for something that'll very rarely get used
