No spark on Honda generator.

I got an Honda silent generator to look at that wouldn’t start. Pulled the ‘flywheel’ that contains the magnets that revolve around the windings to generate the voltage. This also excites the coil to generate a spark. Two of the magnets had come unstuck. And stuck to each other.
I’ve spaced them out correctly and Araldite them into plac.
I’ve not seen this method of using magnets to do two jobs but can see that the two slots must somehow isolate one magnet to use for the coil.
Anyone know the theory behind it? Thanks for any ideas.

Not sure how the magnets are poled, but try running a screwdriver or similar across the slots in the flywheel to determine the magnetic field profile. I suspect there's a quite dramatic change in the magnetic flux, so a coil placed close to the flywheel would experience a rapid change in magnetic field, leading to the generation of a voltage "spike" in the coil windings.

Interesting design, motorcycles use the same idea for the flywheel to generate ac voltage but they normally have a trigger tooth on the outside which passes under a pickup coil.

Saying that my lad's MT-5 pickup coil is internal so looks to run the same as your generator.

Have you got a picture of the Stotor out of interest?.

They are poled alternately to each other. If I hold another magnet to them and go around, they attract and repel alternately.
I think the two slots either side of the magnet, isolate it and allow a pulse to be induced in the coil.
I presume when the magnets came together when they became unstuck, caused any pulse to be negated as they effectively became a ‘null’ magnet just as well I checked and marked the magnets before I Araldited them.
