No penetration.

Hehe, man that words funny. Anyway, layed down my first few welds today, and it's interesting. I'm either blowing holes or not penetrating. Can someone please look at the pictures and let me have any tips you have.

Got a 150TE Clarke, set 2 and min(power) with wire speed 5.5. I figure I may have to increase wire speed and drop power slightly but just wanted to check.

And don't laugh, I think they look quite, errrr........ evenly spaced????

Was someone tickling you when you did the middle one? They're not bad for a 1st attempt, at least you've got penetration, not just blobbed it on the surface. We've all been there Davey, just keep practising, the guy who taught me kept getting me to write my name in weld to learn control. If you haven't already got one, an auto-darkening mask is great. I know weldequip does them at a really good price.

The key thing I found was not looking at the ark but looking through the ark into the weld pool itself,you can actualy see the wire at its melting point.

Thats when a auto tint headsheild comes in cos you can adjust the darkness of the tint.

Once youv'e mastered that your on your way to perfect welds........

Looks to me like you are maybe moving too fast as it doesn't look like continuous weld bead. Sometimes slow wire feed can do that but 5.5 should be fast enough, perhaps try a slightly lower power but slower movement of the torch.

What size wire?

It will be easier with 0.6mm. 0.8 will tend to blow through on thin stuff.
