I like the name.I think it was elephant iron they used in the old ones. Very heavy gauge steel used.
This is exaclty the stuff and this is exactly what I'd like to do with mine. Its straight into the mud at the moment and very slowly dissolving. Another 100 years and it will be four foot high...
I was quoted about £15 each for 2.4m long sheets......the problem was the bits and bobs were dearer than the sheets.....ridge pieces, barge boards, screws etcI had some replacement sheets rolled recently and I was stiffed nearly £500 for six sheets. There was a set up fee of £150, they then added handling and carriage. I think I only paid £750 inc delivery for the whole building forty years ago.

I just had a dig about for the invoice, the six sheets were £443.69 delivered and not £500. The £150 surcharge is made up from rolling and minimum order costs, the rest is vat and delivery. Still makes rolled sheets expensive.

Probably not too much, until you start adding the words “eco” and “designer” oh and “space”, add them into the sentence and add a few 000’s. Nobody have access to the bending machine and we can arrange a group buy? lets make our ownHow Much!!!

I like them. I would have one but they cant be easy to build...I assume the corrugated iron has to be pre-shaped.
There used to be a firm that added Armour to Cars....at the time I visited it was mostly Omegas...it was near Dumfries and close by the Hunter Welly factory....anyway they had 2 absolutely massive Nissan Huts....Ive never seen any so big
Penman Engineering up on the old airfield at Heathhall. They're getting back on their feet after being in receivership a couple of years ago. The buildings are WW2 aircraft hangers so quite different to a Nissan hut. I pick stock feed up from a distribution centre just round the corner that also has 2 of them. They're huge!
Edit: I think most of the Omegas they did went to the RUC/PSNI and the diplomatic protection service.
They also built the cabs for the Unipower/ALE Trojan trucks a while back.
Not sure what they're up to these days
bloke on the omega owners forum had an armoured omega:
4" thick windscreen, best part of 3.5T in weight. 0-60 in 11s.
no idea of the provenance.
looked a standard saloon up close.
would have loved to watch a twocker try to put a brick through the side window.
Obama's were 8 inch thickSeen a video on youtube where an old lincoln that was used as an armoured car for a big wig in america, the doors were filled with concrete !

That was penman engineering, they went into administration a few years ago but got bought out by someone I think, they also done a lot of MOD work and work for BT making bodies for transit pickups, there are quite a few old aircraft hangers in Dumfries at heathall industrial estate, I think some were used recently for storing grain/animal feeds...I like them. I would have one but they cant be easy to build...I assume the corrugated iron has to be pre-shaped.
