Nilfisk P150.1 The Screaming Eagle

One quarter the way through the ritual drive demossing exercise today and my pressure washer started an incredibly loud high-pitched screaming noise. No obvious reduction of flow or pressure.

Before I start the disassembly process and check for spare part availability does anyone have any experience to share?

My immediate thought is a bearing on the electric motor. If there was a way to lubricate them with minimal disassembly (dare I suggest WD40), that would at least confirm or deny them as the source of the noise.

It's an eccentric disc driven type pump. The last kranzle (same motor-piston drive principal) death I had screamed before it locked up. It was the ball bearings and races they ran in on that eccentric disc. Repeated abuse with water contaminated and low oil + time tore the races up which chewed the ball bearings up. I did replace the balls once, got a bit more life out of it, but not lots. Beyond economical repair.

I finally plucked up the courage to tackle the 42 T20 screws lurking deep in narrow recesses and disassembled the beast:

I haven't progressed beyond removing the motor armature as I found these 'wear' patterns:

As @Gareth J suggested I think this may mean it is Beyond Economical Repair.

Does anyone want a 'project'?

I think I need an early Christmas present for myself. This model has much the same specification as the late, great Screaming Eagle:

Does anyone have any negative experiences - other than the price?

But as I have learned the cost is soon forgotten but the quality shows forever. The last one lasted over a decade of fairly heavy use, so I'm not complaining - too much.

I'll carry on with the autopsy tomorrow evening then and let you know the result. I'm still veering towards treating myself to a shiny new one.

So the set screw sheared off and fell out of the end of the rotor allowing it to move up and down hence chewing up seen above.

Irritatingly the pump seems entirely serviceable:

SWMBO has offered to buy me a whole new pressure washer so I'll not be trying to source a new motor and associated items.

Does anyone have a need for a used Nilfisk P150 pump? Other minor bits and pieces of treasure?

Top pic of eccentric bearing is where I incorrectly thought the issue might be.

You could put the pump head on eBay. Someone bought my ancient kranzle one to my amazement.

Considered it, then asked myself do I need those few pennies enough to put up with eBay numpties?

Hedged my bets by wrapping it up and putting it away 'just in case'.

An additional item for my executors to moan about.

Oooh, I have a Nilfisk 150 (a 150 something I think) but will check. Sadly I'd lent it, and it came back leaking, and the high pressure hose with a big hole in it - tried splicing, and kinda holds together. If yours is still available, might be able to collect, as damn heavy.. - just for spare parts as mine was either thrown out of top floor window / run over by bus. I now have a special selection of ****e that I loan people; no longer the good stuff will be lent.

I still have everything except the self-tapping screws. But you can have those too if you want to sort them out from my 'might be useful one-day' drawers. The stator and munched-up drive plate are in the black bin if you want to go diving in there.

Don't have the equipment to do a decent job of that - but it still would need a new drive plate.
