remember a bloke getting his yard tarmacked and the guys said 40 quid ok get on with it then he went to pay and the gyp err contractors said that will be 400quid BUT U SAID 40 yea per meter pay up or we will torch your equipment he had to pay em . I cant understand folk even giving them house room either gullible or greedy thinking theres something for nothing

If you feed the trolls they keep coming back. Got loads round here. Always see there wagons loaded with green waste and hardcore/soil so people are giving em a wage.

Laid on an old drive so the sub base should have been pretty good to start with. New drive on virgin ground might have been a different story. They can't all be cowboys. Good money blocking if your good at your job. Too hard ob my knees and back these days. Avoid where possible.

Worked with a team of poles on Jersey renovating Farmhouses. Good bunch and worked like troopers. Put the natives to shame. They blocked on 8mm granite chippings on top of type 1 and membrane. Questioned it initially but gave a solid drive and held up to the test of time.

Used to use granite sand a lot to pave over there too as they quarried it there. Bit of moisture when you compacted it and it set like concrete. Better to screed than sharp too

I saw them laying block paving on compacted mud another one where I was working they had done a drive and a few blocks had sunk .it was wet and freezing and they couldn't get them out so they borrowed the woman's hair dryer and thawed them out honestly u couldn't make it up I've seen it all now

Tile replaced, no longer leaking.. builder didn't charge them as it wasn't worth the effort.

In return he got the job of repairing and plastering the bathroom ceiling so everyone is happy.

Woman opposite me got a visit from "a man from the council" who said neighbours had complained about her drains smelling. He charged her £80 to pour a bottle of bleach down the drain. I managed to intervene before she paid them and asked for an invoice. A young lass came round in the evening with an "invoice" scrawled on a piece of paper from an exercise book. I pointed out there was no company name, number or VAT number and that I would ring Trading Standards. Never heard any more.

At the house in Aberdeen, I had a Transit flatbed turn up one day and an offer to resurface the drive [not huge, but was uneven through car wheels over the years]. He wanted £120, because "we've got some left over after another job locally".

He didn't know that I knew the chap they'd done the job for, and had been round to see what they done, and it was a proper job, dug down etc. I also knew what he'd paid and it was more than they wanted for me.

Had to be used that day, so my words were "Are you a gambling man?" He looked at me..... I said "I'll give you all the notes I have in my pocket right now, and I have no idea exactly how much that is" [I looked prosperous......booted & suited ]. I was astonished when he took the gamble and I handed him £40 [OK, I lied, I DID know ]. They did an excellent job, and possibly would have even if I hadn't been more or less perched on his shoulder while it was done......
