Starting to grind back with a flap disc.
One section was a rather thin and the flap disc burned the thin metal away. I'd blown through when welding originally, all a bit bodgy really.
I tried welding it back up but burned through again before realising I'd turned the gas off.
A copper backing strip was used to rescue it in the end.
Still a bit pin holey. That settles which end goes at the back then.
Problem number two. The helmet is far too bloody small! I can put it on my head but it digs into my forehead and everywhere else. I can round it out a little more to help this, it needs a lot of shaping and planishing but that still won't be enough.
This brings me to problem number 3. It's much stiffer now so I think it will be very hard to work and planish the helmet. Access is also reduced a little now the two halves are together. I am making so many mistakes and learning so much!
