newby never tig'd before!

Hi, I have never run a tig so please be gentle! I am setting up my hobby shed after retiring from classic car repair and servicing, I have a good BOC 180 mig but also need to weld alloy so have blagged a Murex transtig ac/dc 260, the water cooled torch has WP20 on the side, I have no tungstens or ceramic caps, I have no idea what to buy regarding sizes for car body steel and thicker alloy castings, I have a couple of friends who hopefully can give me some instruction but I need to have the welder working first,

also the water cooler is broken, motor / pump seized and leaking water! if I cannot mend it I will try to make one, any idea if a domestic shower pump would work with a suitable radiator? not looking to weld at max amps or for long periods, don't really want to buy a new cooling system until I have the welder working and am happy with it, spent all my money on 100 mtrs of 25mm 5 core and the 3 phase supply from the road!

Regarding spares for your torch I would call into your local welding equipment distributor they will be able to sort you out with everything you need

Regarding your water cooler, do you need it? you could swap torches for a gas cooled one and save you the bother of fixing/making up a cooler, just a thought.

I will post some more pictures later, stripped the cooler and the integral brass pump was seized, seems it once had a steel cap over the end of the steel shaft and brass impeller, turned to a lump of coal and jammed it all up, the motor has been hot but still runs well, as the bearings were noisy I have stripped down the motor and will be fitting a new seal plus two bearings, as you can see I do like to be able to stick bits of metal together, usually badly......

two sealed SKF bearings and a pump seal £7.50, ain't ebay great, well for some things! need to get on with it, if something remains stripped down for more than two weeks it almost never goes back together!

Sometimes after they’ve jammed up them pumps don’t pump well. Check the pressure and flow before you use a torch on there. 1 - 2lpm at 50psi is what you should aim for.
