Newbie with a simple question

Hi,
just joined the forum .....was amazed by the knowledge and the mods suggested to improve the SIP mig welders .

Use my migmate irregularly but had noticed my welding skills seem to be getting worse....rather than improving. After finding this site I now know 'I can blame my tools'. Reading the posts I found out the plastic liner needs replacing.....great I said ...I'll fit a metal one. Unfortunately I have contacted a number of suppliers and all they can offer is the plastic version

Can someone please suggest a supplier (mail order) Thank you

hello and welcome someone will be along who can tell you where to get one. Try PM to Weldequip and Diy Welding both supply kit and have good reputation for quality and service. MIG as with all welding requires practice

Hi Madkayaker,
thanks for the welcome ....and the advice ....I will give them a try. As to practice, I agree totally ...but my welds had deteriated....no amount of adjustment would give me smooth wire delivery...and intermittently I would get 'wire bounce' and then later the wire would 'burn' in the tip (on the same settings and same 'job'). Checked the resistance of the wire (as in the metal liner mod thread) and found the liner /wire to be 'sticky'. So wanted to give a metal liner a try.

yeah as madkayaker said get in touch with weldequip i bought my tourch service kit off his ebay shop, includes metal liner and a few other bits, would also highly recommend the transformer improvement metioned Here, also the metal tie to help improve roller contact on the wire (simple and cheap), i have done all of these and my welder now runs brilliantly, there are some pictures on that of the quality of welds that achieved after the mods!! Good Luck

thanks for your comments .....metal liner now received (thanks weldequip ) In the process of fitting, will definately do the 'stablizing mod' on the drive and see how it goes.

Fitted new metal liner, made the support bracket ( made a cardboard template first) fitted perfectly ...first time. My....what a difference...produced nice clean welds and the motor sounded 'less laboured'.....Excellent mods that took around half an hour making/fitting

Will probably try the transformer mod at a later date.

fantastic katana. glad to here you got it sorted!! those 2 mods def make a big difference well happy welding, would love to see some pictures of the improved welds??
