My greetings to one and all
I spent most of my working life as a mining engineer, mainly in the Staffordshire coalfield and after that with a Yorkshire tunneling company. I have a pretty broad interest in DIT [Do It Theesen] building, joinery and metalwork etc, but the pit was not too kind to my body, and at 71 new bits seem to be fading away or seizing up every day. These days I'm pretty much restricted to a weekly visit to the car boot and spending the rest of the week restoring tools. Current obsession seem to be UK made Vices, specialist hammers and axes ..... but could be anything.... got a brass tenor horn last week for fifteen quid, now refurbished and passed on to one of the grandkids, who is learning trumpet.
My go to welding wizard, who did many small jobs for me over the years, sadly popped his clogs recently, so Im hoping to get started on some basic welding this summer, with the eventual aim to be able to weld or braze cast iron.
I'm in the Doncaster area and it would be good to meet up with someone local[ish] with similar interests, who might be able help out with small jobs.
I very much like the informative nature and friendly feel of this forum and look forward to getting involved
Be good be safe and be lucky
