Thanks for that, i had found that one, as i still dont know if to buy there gun or the eastwood one, as i still have to buy this.
does anyone do a metalic one coat powder?

Just looked at that link from Fergus. Hadn't realised that home powder coating kits were so cheap. How easy is it to get a professional finish on stuff like wheels?

Do a search for Caswell Europe, they do a brilliant chrome powder, and the correct clear to go over it.

Yes but there is a very good reason that all decent wheel refurb places still use a wet paint for colour over a powder primer with a powder lacquer.
It's hard enough getting a good finish with professional kit, free of orange peel or build up on the edges of spokes even with a proper gun with adjustable flow and charge. I'd not even like to think how long a small oven would take to get the metal up to cure temperature, it's really just not a case of making the powder flow out. More so if you are doing a double coat eg powder with lacquer over the top of powder colour or primer.
As Ben has said above, accurate coverage and curing are a problem with larger complex items. When I do my wheels I'll be painting them.
The kits are however excellent for smaller parts such as brackets, wishbones and so on.

There are forums devoted just to powder coating, the Eastwood one and the Powder Buy The Pound ones are very good.
There are lots of home brew ovens about, either electric or gas heated.
I started with an Eastwood gun and progressed to commercial kit but I still use the Eastwood kit for small pieces. I am very pleased with the results I get and my only limitation is oven size.
In my old workshop I built a 1 by 1 by 2 m oven that I preheated with a propane heater and then maintained the heat with electric elements. Used it for motorcycle frames, wire wheels, suspension parts, rocker covers and home made bits of kit. Sadly my new workshop hasn't the space so it had to go and we are back to sneaking stuff into the domestic oven when the missus's back is turned. At some stage I need to build another oven but more compact, perhaps an expandable one?

Thanks for the replies guys. It was wheels I would be thinking of, if anything. Very interesting stuff to read about.
Missed this reply, the kit is essentially the same. I can't comment on Eastwood but the back up and support from Electrostaticmagic has been second to none.
If you send in pictures of your projects they often send you some free powder as a thank you.
The chrome doesnt look like chrome,just very shiny silver,it looks better before the clear like dulled polished alloy,after the clear it loses the gleam.It does look nice tho,I cant speak for the DIY eastwood kits but Id think that small parts will be no problem,Id imagine the oven will be the big issue when doing wheels at home,alloy in particular,if youve blasted them and cleaned them you'll need to pre heat them,practice makes perfect of,just a PITA having to blast off a spoiled powder coat finish.Our gear is Gema and Nordson,the guns alone works out close to 1000 quid each before the control boxes and fluidizing bed..ouch.

Yeah and if you put the chrome powder over a powder primer, but don't give the primer a good cure it slips and leaves small lines in the surface. Going on hot does help you to see you've got enough on without it dripping off
How does the Nordson compare to the Gema? I must admit I prefer our Wagner to the Gema.
