Hi guys, great site. Just bought my first mig yesterday. Was very excited to start welding. What a disapointment. I was going to go the gassless flux core route, but after making some calculations i found gass will be more cost effective. So i bought gassless wire, but it was running late and i couldnt get the gas. When i got home i decided im gonna give it a go without the gas. Obviously it didnt go very well. I was burning holes and making bird crap all over. I just want to know if i eventially do get the gas, will it go better?

Gas MIG is much easier to see, hear and control.

Gasless is good for thick stuff outside. After you get the feel of gas, you could probably do gasless better. It is messy though and not for thin metal.

I tried gasless once, went right out and got some gas; never looked back.

Welcome to the Forum.

As this is your first MIG (and I assume first crack at MIG welding) you will need practice, it's the same for us all!

Go through the tutorials and practice on material about 2-3mm thick, thin metal can blow through quite easily.
