New Year Sales

Ive been looking fo a new tool box for a while, but have resisted and thought i,d wait for the new year sales, i have never had a decent one really so im looking forward to scouring the sites. Im hoping to get a good bargain given the present climate in consumers sales, what with shops closing and everything else.

Wicks have got stanly boxes with organizer lids for £20 got one yesterday to replace a fallen to bits one and seams decent

There hasn't been a decent tool box since B&Q appeared. I got a steel cantilever box for my 17th birthday and still use it; the Chinese made 'steel' ones last about as long as the plastic boxes these days.
When the plastic boxes first appeared they were a lot more substantial than the modern ones and tended to be made of more pliable plastics (polypropylene?), whereas the stuff they use now is brittle (ABS?) and has as little material as they can get away with.
One of these days I'll get around to sorting out my late father's garage; he had several cantilevers that date back to at least the 1960s if not earlier! Some are so heavy they almost take two people to move...

Hi wedgie, I bought a stanley box from b&q last week to keep my tig torch and ceramics etc in, nice box but I don't see it lasting too long though. The bits that hold the lid on have to take a lot of weight, and aren't very strong by the look of them. I have a similar box which is about 8 years old, and it is quite badly deformed so the lid won't shut properly. Anyway Happy Christmas to you and your's, Dave

I went to Wicks, and B&Q, at 1st glance they look like O.K value but on inspection, i think your right they probably wont last a great deal of time especially with heavy tools in, i could very well end up in MM, I cant afford or justify a gucci SNAP ON box, but as a lot of the lads on here have said often, you only get what you pay for........
