New welding torch?

Hi guys,

So I’ve been a bit of an idiot. Yesterday I was welding some stuff up on my car with my crappy Draper Storm force welder that I bought off Amazon like two years ago for a packet of peanuts.

Not the best welder in the world, but works enough for the light stuff on my car.

Through sheer stupidity and reasons unknown even to myself I decided it would be a good idea to rest the sheathing of the mig torch on a piping hot weld (I really wasn’t paying attention) and it has burnt through the sheathing and wrecked the torch.

Even though it’s cheap and sh1t, I do still want to use the welder as it’s easier to carry around than my larger mig, so am looking for a replacement torch.

The one on the machine is a 14mk, but I’ve found one online for cheap that’s a 14ak. Is that one going to be compatible? The torch seems rated for much beyond what it puts out but I’m wondering if anyone can provide some insight before I make a purchase and potentially electrocute myself!

I’ve replaced torches on my other machines, so I’m not worried about that part, but it’s always been like-for-like.

The torches both look identical so I’m wondering if maybe different factories in Shenzhen call them different names for the same item?

A Picture of the front of your machine would help.

If your machine has a Euro Connector then any torch will fit, Parker Torches are a value for money brand and last well.

It’s only one of these. It’s the same as like what rohr, parkside etc. sell, probably all just made in the same factory and badged for different customers.

Something like this maybe? Check if your existing torch has the gas valve operated by the trigger, or is there a solenoid in the welder.

That’s what I’m asking about. The stock torch is a 14MK, but I was wondering if the 14AK would work as they look the exact same.

The machine is gasless only (I mainly use this for outside welding while I use my migatronic in my workshop) so I don’t see how the gas solenoid you mentioned would be an issue.

I wonder if 14MK is gasless only, 14AK having the gas valve and pipe. Just speculation because the only reference I see to 14MK is a listing for a gasless MIG.

Yeah I’d imagine so. Does anyone have the circuit diagram for this kind of machine? I’ve opened it up and it looks pretty simple and compatible with the 14ak torch.
