Our sister company moved premises and in the upheaval they unearthed a TIG set that hasn't been used in at least 10 years... as the one guy who could use it retired a few years back I suggested it might find better application in our premises .
The boss agreed and this morning a Migatronic 160 HF arrived by my desk
Thinking it'd probably go bang if we plugged it in I suggested we ramp the mains up from a variac to avoid shocking the capacitors.
Didn't work
Then someone said 'ah to hell with it' and plugged it straight into the wall.
It came on
There's no gas bottle with it (was sent back to BOC years ago to save rental charges) and the one tungsten is about an inch long but it seems to spark up OK, post-flow timer, HF etc. is working so just need to find a way to convince them to sell me it...
There's also an auto-darkening mask but it doesn't darken so I've left it by a window to see if the batteries will charge off what passes for sunlight up here.
