new welder needed

ive think ive deceided to buy a new welder need to be able to weld rusty car body work but up to 4MM what would you all recomend? Ive given no price as new or secondhand will do ive got a old SIP 130 but having problems with it at the moment wire feed speed controler and it keeps stopping arcing up So i carnt do much more than spot welds with it at the moment SO what would you recomend

Get thee a Portamig!

Felt I had to reply after our collective failure to satisfy your post answering needs. If budget is tight get thee a Clarke but one with at least the 150 amp output. They work and should please you well for a few years until you decide to upgrade to the Portamig.

Failing any of that - second-hand on eBay can be a good bet. Go for an established name (Murex, Esab etc), avoid any complication like inverters, and test before you buy to see if it works. Generally they won't work (why else would they be for sale) but often it's just something like a bad liner.

ive got a kaput SIP 130 an old one, wire feed probs i think and transformer so am looking for another one want somthing half decent as trying to learn more so as to try to help get me a job as been out of work 3 years next week?,,

Been looking at a( migatronic rally 166) 15 years old but its got no tourch
with it does it take a standered euro tourch or does it need manufactors own one??

i would personally buy a professional mig set no bigger than 200 amp , the reason i say 200 amp is that i don't like using any welder flat out . and you can do a lot more jobs with a 180-200 amp welder than you can 130 amps . a euro torch is a must in my experience . i can personally vouch for any of these brands murex , boc , eland , butters , migatronic , miller usa , lincoln , oerlikon , multi weld . other semi pro welders what would do the job and give good results would be cebora ( snap on ) nu mig , kamanchi , sealy . there will be others im sure . the more settings the better an industrial type wire feed motor ideal ( look like a car wiper motor ) the best welders usualy have copper transformers with the exception of esab . quallity welders can be bought second hand for arround £200-£300 on ebay for real good ones .
