thanks for all advice bad or good. it all helps ill try to get back on the site and sort out mistakes.

as for feeders to be honest i no the market quite well have been making them for years and been on other end of phone i have been one buying them to. to be honest i don't think you have to get to technical with the feeder part people normally no what the want before they ring up. as for giving them names y give them names? if some one wants a 15 foot open bottom feeder that what it is or a 15 foot tmr feeder i no what that is don't see point in spending time giving names when they already have names.

also as for telephone number thing cant see problem with mobile number? not got a land line in workshop so all ill get is loads calls going home. and if i get call diverted how will my misses answer the call that are for her?? in this day an age the land line is quite old school mobiles and email is fine for me.

An online presence is quite often the first contact with prospective customers, and so it is imperative that you present yourself as a professional company, no matter what your are selling or making.

As has been mentioned already by MattF, Woz, c-k et al, get someone to proof read everything before you put it out into the WWW, since once it is there, there is always a copy somewhere. I pointed out errors in the new sparkly website of a previous employer, only to find them still there months later. ?Why bother?

ebuy is a prime example of an advert for a product that is being spoilt by presentation. You know the ones, so bad they make you cry, or laugh. I quite often see the name of the item misspelled, read it off the side for crying out loud, VolkswagEn not VolkswagOn.

I get put off by businesses only having a mobile number, a sim card can be bought for a few quid and the number can be impossible to trace. Ar least a landline is tied to a physical location and give a bit more substance to a company or trader.

I suppose its a hard one to decide on - you'll never know if someone has decided not to call and has gone elsewhere.

I would concur with this. I would have to be absolutely desperate to call a business whose sole contact was a mobile number. I feel the same way about 0800 and other non geographics. I like to know where my call is terminating. Not always accurate I have to concede as you can get Skype In numbers that can terminate anywhere, but look genuine.

You're better off trying to collar someone you know to proof read it instead. Even if you use a spell-checker, they can only catch spelling mistakes. They won't catch bad grammar, for example. If you know any pedants, collar one.

Or ask on a forum!
I used to proof read a mates copy for the Huddersfield Examiner until she got sick of me!

Jolly good. It's one of those things where you'll end up making no end of tweaks, alterations etc., so you'll probably find yourself altering it quite a bit over time. A website is like a living thing.

Must admit, I personally agree with you there. You're aiming at a knowledgeable audience who knows exactly what they want, rather than trying to sell something to someone who may be unsure, new to the field etc., (pardon the pun), so if it were I, I'd also just stick with simple basics like you're doing.

Same here. Especially in this day and age where the influence of the seppo's is having a widespread effect, combined with the use of debatable schooling, technological jargon, (txt speak), and the like all leading to the language being decimated, it's just nice to have some pride in ones native language.

Quite ironic when you think about it though. To say that our language is a combination and bastardisation of most European languages, that it should end up being referred to as the international language and that some of us also become so protective towards keeping it 'pure' whenever possible.

This website is marketing. It creates an impression of you, your company and your products. It gives you a chance to show off some of your products and capabilities. You want it to be a favourable impression which prompts people to email or phone.

If you go about it with the attitude, "Feeders are just bloody feeders and most of our customers can't spell anyway", I guarantee it will be a liability.

Get it right and it will be an asset which will get you business, which is the whole point of it.

I think the writing " finest metals and thickest woods" needs altering , i would say "ffinest materials used" , thickest wooods does,nt sound right. Also i take the point on the phone no, put underneath your mobile no in small writing, apologies for no land line trying to rectify asap, or some thing similar its only a web site after all, infomation can be changed...

Littl'un wonders why my texts are full sentences, but she is getting better.

Since we are all looking at Bill$ Windo$e, or at least most of us, I object to being forced to use American spellings on icons which cannot be modified without more technical knowledge than I have. 'Security Center' which is a regular destination for us all, should be Centre, but I cannot see how to change it, or any other Americanisations. The fact that Americanisation is accepted is not really a surprise.

Well he does have a map on there already, the full address is easy to get and it's already on his yellow pages listing.

Funnily enough, I've kept thinking about the word jail recently, (no, I haven't done anything wrong ). Kept meaning to check if that was a QE word rather than a merkin one. If not, I was going back to using either gaol else prison.

One thing that makes me cringe is when tv programmes have people accusing someone of being a "killer" Surely that should be murderer? Do people really say killer?

In which case ill add...

Get someone to proof read it and sort out the fonts.

Worth putting pictures of work near the top of the home page. Welding picture not useful. Describe in words what you do on the page. People search for words so they need to be there. Include some apropriate words in the title tag. Include location in both - after a bit of searching people tend to include location.
