They bought a few IW trailers for us. I refused to take the one they had for me. Far to big. Others took them then returned them. They are now asking what we want. We’ll see

Bought this for work. Nugent, I'm very pleased with it - do not know it's there unlike the Ifor's I've towed previously that others have said rattle like crazy.

I do prefer the Ifor lashing rings as the bow shackles on the Nugent are more suited to a strap straight across whereas the Ifor's 'hoops' are better at accommodating straps placed diagonally across the bed.

CLH (Carmarthenshire) seem to get a good write up on farming websites, but I have never yet had a chance to look at one.

I live near CLH & know the founder well, and have been in and out of their works for years. As has been said - they know their stuff and build bespoke if the customer needs, Inc. Transporters and market trader specials.
Work has hired off them quite a bit, so I've towed a variety of their kit about (they also fabricate some one-off bits and Laser CNC brackets for Plant etc).

Iam overhauling an old IW at the moment . The parts prices are astronomical £350 for 1 brake drum. I asked how much for a complete later type axle £490. But 6 weeks delivery.

There are other advantages to ifor apart from the resale price that arnt mentioned. They are exclusively proper leaf springs. Whilst this is louder than indespension units they are far more robust. Ifor trailers are lighter than their competition. Which for some is very important. Their gh plant trailers are over 100kg lighter than some manufacturers which when running the bigger 2.7t machines is the difference between running legal or not.

If you just want flat out build quality then the Irish make some incredible trailers. Not alot of carrying capacity but will never break.
A friend has an mcn trailer and their are plenty of photos floating around of them loaded up with 4 and 5 tonne machines. Whilst completely illegal they seem none the worse for the abuse.

I’ll disagree about IW road springs, I’ve broken a good few of them. My old Graham Edwards that has been deemed not serviceable had way over 100k miles on it. Not replaced a suspension unit on it. Same roads as the IW went on. My son has a 16ft twin axle IW trailer, guess what we have in our shed ? Road springs

The IW trailers may not be the best quality but they are well catered for on the spares front. I overhauled my tilt trailer a few years ago, new springs/ubolts, bearings, brake drums, brake lining kit with all the adjusters, two wheel rims ,cables and the hitch damper, walked out of the trailer shop with the whole lot in a box and change from £900.

That sounds incredibly bad luck. My boss runs 3 TRI axle ifors gh a twin axle ifor gx and a twin axle tt. All doing upwards of 50k miles a year loaded to the max ketbed constantly towed behind lorries half the time which is far worse for them. And they have never had a new spring. They have new tyres brakes and hitch regularly.

And that’s why I never lend trailers!!!

I have had a CLH trailer since the mid 90's, only a 500 Kg unbraked one it has been faultless, 2 tyres have been replaced rotted, rather than worn. I once overloaded it with engineering bricks proably 50% over, drove home on the back roads towed perfectly.

I met the dealer our new trailers are being supplied by. He saw I was pulling a IW and asked how I liked it. Told him my thoughts. He then told me that they now don’t deal in IW trailers as they are going down hill quickly, the quality isn’t there anymore.

@Migmac incidentally I enquired with Andrew @ CLH about their flat beds. From memory (paper is in the car) their 16'x6'6" trailer, twin axle with sides was ~£3.4k + VAT. There is an integrated slot for ramps underneath but ramps were optional extra.

Much better built than the IW by comparison. I took one of their 18fters up to @fizzy last weekend. Towed very nicely.

That’s really good.

I’ve just been quoted (this morning) £3,5k for a IW GB85 and that’s naked, no sides or ramps. Ramps are £500 each.

I think they've got a guy who hauls regularly up to Scotland. He comes down every year or so for a cattle sale, orders a trailer from CLH to take the animals back. He then sells it before coming down the following year and usually makes a profit
