I was feeling like ive not done anything to improve my workshop for ages, and placed one of those "ill never get it for that " bids on this funky guillotine.
I think everyones feeling the crunch, as nobody else bid on it!

Its three phase 380v, takes up to 80cm wide sheet and has bar and plate sheer facilities too, stands 1.5m tall and is made of big lumps of cast iron. Best take the steel ramps in me van then...
Now how to break it to mrs f without her wanting to use it on my neck...

Look a sturdy bit of kit I suppose the French should be good at making guillotines. Better not tell the wife it's a guillotine when you break the news to her

Looks like an old under crank morgan, that will probably cut 3mm m/s - 2 / 2.5 stainless. P.S. would take it off the castors or it will dance around the workshop when cutting there will be a lot of momentum in that flywheel. Als when cutting thicker material or stainless use a G clamp to clamp the sheet or you will find it will pull the sheet when cutting it.

I told Mrs F this am and Im still alive which is a result, I explained I had put a silly bid on it ready to discuss with her, forgot it and to my surprise won it. It is the only major thing Ive bought this year workshop related though. Must fight the urge to bid on the oxy/acet portapak on ebay just 50kms away...

Sam, will find out maker when I get it, ill strip/clean/paint it green when I get it here and renew any worn out bushes etc. It'll probably be bolted solid to the floor when the workshops finished. It can live next to the similary mounted shaper

For what I will use it for 3mm m/s is going to be fine. I just know how handy my hand guillotine is even with its tendancy to bend the sheet and limited throat so it'd have been rude not to.
Now, when is a huge cast iron framed vertical bandsaw going to raise its head above the paraphet

I went and collected it last night finally, 4 hr trip in the van, and I packed the small ramp and little winch as the seller had a tirfor etc, then as a afterthought threw in the steel ramps, big steel cables, some chain and a differential block n tackle. On arrival it turned out to be a bit bigger than I was expecting to put it mildly. His tirfor was fit for lifting a pushbike and thats about it too, it actually broke unwinding it...
The top of the guillotine is about chin height to me (Im 6'3 or 1.90M tall in new money, so that makes it about 1.7m tall by my estimate) and it dwarf's the back of the van and it must weigh over a tonne. We had to winch it in slowly on the block and tackle up the heavy steel ramps with the smaller winch just to steer it so it pulled straight and a heavy chain hooked up as a emergency brake if the winch broke that we shortened every foot or so. Hard going and Ive got blisters from winding that winch round

Just wired it up in the back of the van on a extension cable just to see, and it just sheared 8mm thick flat bar without breaking into a sweat, and the 80cm cut is a very very very conservative measurement (ive measured it as 1.4m). I think the seller thought he wouldnt have sold it if he'd actually put the actual dimensions and sizes on properly.
H&S would truly have a fit, big flat belt with no guarding, no safetys and 3 phase 10hp motor. Clutch and everything works nicely though still.
Have to wait till monday before I can unload, Im going to get a farmer neighbour to use his telehandler methinks.

Next time I use the words "cute little guillotine" to my mrs, someone remind me to check the dimensions FOR MYSELF. Still, quite happy all the same

At least you got it with one trip. If you move so much with your van have you ever thought of building a "hard point" between the seats that you could temporarily mount an electric winch when required plugged into the battery with an anderson plug.

Ive got similar, in that I have a bar mount which attaches to the crash cage/seatbelt mounts and bolts into the door pillars, that take the winch mounts.
Ive got a 240v winch that I use with it and a small genny, but its a bit poorly at the moment (overloaded it on a previous job now its down on power) hence the using the hand powered diff block. I'd like a genuine tirfor one day which would remove the drama and hard work...

A friend of mine has one he clamps to the (serious) roofrack on his van, we lifted ford V6 out on a chain block then swung it into the back!
