New toy in the workshop!

I use a DeWalt DW872 and then bought a Makita cermet tipped Blade which was supposed to be good for 300 cuts on stainless for £212 !
26 cuts later it went back cos it was dull already,the replacement isnt faring much better.
Shame cos the first few cuts were brilliant.Gonna go back to abrasive discs and get me money back.
Are bandsaw blades any good for stainless and titanium ??

i cut a fair amount of s/steel on my bandsaw[with coolant,to wash chips away] & as long as you keep a dedicated blade for s/steel & no m/steel cutting
with said blade ,then it will do hundereds of cuts.

I've looked at the Rage 3 variants on that site, but I'm confused (not unusual, I admit). So, the 230 volt ones can cut up to 6mm thickness, but what kind of length of cut before you run out of 'slide'?

For me it's too early to go out to the garage. It won't be erected for a few weeks as I'm still waiting for planning permission Anyway, thanks for the info. I'm sure with care and attention to detail I could turn the metal around and cut up to 600mm, although I doubt I'll ever need that length of cut (of course my first cut will need to be a metre!). I'm sold!

fwiw I have baby rage saw, yes its noisy-angle grinder is cutting pretty much unconfined, rage saw noise is bouncing back from table and fence, saw and disc cutter both have their places in my projects.
Rage saw is what I reach for for cutting 1.5mmm tubing for a 90°/45° etc cut.

I:
glue a sandpaper/emery strip to the fence to increase grip of the workpiece
tack weld small piece of flat to workpiece hold down and glue emery to it
I have wood offcuts with sandpaper glued to one face to hold against the work whilst cutting
use light pressure and cut in small increments to reduce noise and give blade an easier life.

You probably don't need to do all that but its tricks I brought over from chopsawing/ripsawing timber etc .

Obviously before using it I will have to add a serious thickness of insulation to all the walls and even the opaque roof panels. However I'll be replacing some of the latter with clear plastic ones to allow some daylight in. Even so use will have to be confined to daylight hours. It's got to be better than an angle grinder on wide or thick stuff.

Thanks very much Norm - I only just bought it, so I am going to have a look at what you suggest. What I notice is that the act of clamping the work tightly seems to slightly distort the vertical part of the fence which then puts the work out of square.... I am only doing MIG at the moment, so hopefully small inaccuracies won't matter too much.

It says its good for cutting 6mm steel, has anyone cut anything thicker?

Can metal cutting blades be fitted? Will it be able to cut thicker steel or should I just stick with the original tct blade?

sip ultimate saw far better than rage. blades cut nicer and feels better made machine

I've currently got an eye on a combined saw table, router, band saw table and external power take off. With the right saw band fitted and an automatic feed system designed I could leave it to cut through a considerable amount of metal while I go and have me dinner. I reckon a drip feed for lubrication wouldn't hurt either.

Lubrication/Coolant is something I hadnt considered with the rage I always assumed it was more for drilling and bandsaws etc

Does anyone know how well lube works on the rage blade?, is it worth it?

If you're having a rectal examination lubriction is essential

I use my Rage all the time and love it. Its no louder than cutting with the grinder and gives a nice accurate cut. Make sure you check the alignments before use using a square.

Well I got it, but at a higher price than I could have hoped for. Now all I have to do is collect and pay for it, measure the size of saw band required, buy one, erect the new garden fence, build the garage, install a heavy duty power supply ... Oh, and overhaul the brakes on the motorhome, fit new tyres ...
