Well after much research, head scratching and lots of saving I eventually decided on an R-tech 250 inverter mig. I ordered it through a local distributor here in ni and managed to get a great deal on it, much better than i was getting direct from R-tech.

Along with the machine I ordered a lincoln M15 eurotorch, a 15kg roll of 0.8 lincoln wire and a 5kg roll of sealey 0.6 wire. As for gas i have bought a 20ltr bottle of sgs argon mix.

Im really really pleased with the setup but havnt had much time to play. Not sure if you can see the pics but the sealey wire dosnt seem to really fit and i cant tension it. The only tension is the roll moving on the spindle if you know what i mean.

The practice welds were all done on 0.8 mild steel. I know its not ideal but its all i had to hand tonight. All comments, addvice and weld criticism very welcome lol.

The tensioner for the spool is a nut and spring inside the hub unscrew the plastic and cap and you will see it, the 5k spools of wire push onto a lug at the back of the hub, the hub rotates with the spool, it is sloped up to stop the smaller spools running off.

Now that looks like what I need . Yeah I seen the tension nut and the lug but my roll of wire dosnt seem to slot into the lug. Will have to have a look again tomorrow.

Out of interest what made you go for an after market torch??

Also are those the settings you were welding on?? I ask as I have never needed mine up that high on the wire feed..

Just from reading reviews i seen mentioned a few times that the Mb25 supplied with the machine is rather bulky for thin metal/tight spaces. I will be using the machine quite a bit for bodywork so that it would be worth while and the fact that I got it for £25 I thought it was a great deal.

Yeah that was the settings on 0.8 steel and 0.6 wire. Im not that experienced so mabye not set right. Also my display is just showing 1 when the machine is switched on at those settings??

Your right the mb 250 is a tad chunky, I bought a 150 for mine to do lighter stuff, the digital display only shows the amperage when your actually welding.

A ryt ryt. Am I just being stupid here or is that slightly pointless?? Sort of makes that a 2 man job, one welding and one watching the amps.

Yeah I thought that as well, you can catch a glimpse of it when your welding if your quick!
