@a111r - "That's unusual, I've never seen a Migmate, old or new, with a steel liner fitted as OEM."
I bought the welder brand new in the original packaging so it was definitely OEM. Here is a photo of the liner I took out - the stripped end was in the collet.

The pliers are just there for scalePerhaps the new Classic MIgmate Owners Club could have a smaller, more niche, Hellerman pliers subset....
DSR - "I'll have a look at mine tomorrow and let you know." - Thank you - I really need to be spoon fed these steps
My migmate is the silver colored one I bought it new but can't remember when. Mine has the original steel lining to the torch it came with. The only fault I've had with mine is finding torch tips I now buy Hobart. 030 tips rethread them to fit where it screws in and have had no problems. If I may how do I date my welder .is their a number or date on it. I'm brand new here so if I'm out of order excuse me. It's a keeper thanks. Note that welding gas provision for DIY users has moved on, with much lower cost than rental from BOC (search Hobbyweld 5 etc). Mix gas is far superior to FC wire and also CO2.
And yes, those are some very impressive modifications by @DSR ! Never has a (decent early) Migmate been so pimped.
All it needs now is a 6 position rotary switch to replace those naff push buttons.
