Hello to all will try not to bore you all with questions that have been asked many times before. i am looking to buy a tig welder . And have been looking at R-tech machines does anyone have one or point me in a better direction.
im not working for them and having nothing to do with them. i am a model engineer who has done no welding before and feel it is time for me to start and stop going to my mates when i need something done. i want to weld steel and have been told that you can tig copper and brass would like to buy a fair machine got about 1K .might what to do ally not sure about that though.any help would be great many thanks .
It's well worth a read through this section. The choices seem to be:
DC or AC/DC? You really need AC to weld aluminium, and that doubles the price.
For DC welders you have a choice between lift start and HF start. HF start is very useful (starts the arc without touching the work).
Chinese or European? Many of the Chinese built welders sold in the UK by reputable manufacturers tend to be pulled apart and re-engineered a bit after arriving on these shores. The quality of bits over there can be variable. Or course the ones you see on eBay won't have had this treatment.
Transformer or inverter? Most are inverter based these days - nice and smooth, lots of features, but transformer ones will tend to last longer and be cheaper to repair.
thanks for the advice not sure about used as i have not had a lot of luck in the past with used stuff so would like to buy new. any model spring to mind that i might take a look .
Have a look at This thread, 7th post down, it may be of some use to you, not too big, but big enough to take care of most things you will want to do in the future...HTH
