New to welding where should i get my gas.

Hi

I have never done any welding in my life but have always been keen to try it. After looking at several online and not buying them due to lack of funds i brought one second hand today, it is a migamate em1001. Looks pretty old and couldn't find any info online about them really, if anyone knows if they are any good let me know. Anyway i need to buy some gas so that i can use it my question is where would be the best place to get some bearing in mind i don't really want to be spending more than £100 after all the welder was only £80! Also how much is a decent mask going to set me back?

Welcome Rory, try a forum search, the subject of gas sources has been much discussed.

for the mask, you should find a decent one suited for your purpose for around £30 on the likes of eBay, again a search will help as folk have made recommendations before.

Is the welder possibly a sip migmate? There's loads of gas suppliers that do a rent free option where you pay a deposit and get the bottle and all you do is take it back for gas refills and no monthly fees. The boc deal is great if you are using plenty of gas, I'll be going down that route when I get myself an argon bottle to run a tig set up. At the minute for the mig I've a co2 bottle that I get a guy to fill for me at theprice for gas. But finding someone to do it without a rental agreement is getting difficult these days

Ron 85 again cheers for the info. But no its definitely spelt migamag em1001 just realised I spelt it wrong in the op looks pretty old to me but has a lot of adjustability so will report back with how it performs

Got my gas and regulator today. More problems have arisen. The hose on the welder does not fit over the outlet on the regulator. Would it be okay to cut some garden hose which would fit over the outlet and over the hose on the welder then jubilee clip the small section of garden hose at both ends? Basically making an adapter or is the pressure too high?

if the hose that comes out the welder is very thin.
like you get on the clarke hobby welders, you can get am adaptor hose
that will connect to it and give you a connection the other end
that will connect to a normal regulator.

im sure weldquip sell them

Cheers that looks like the sort of thing i need. the other thing I was thinking is on weldequip they have a quarter to 3/8 inch brass adapter do you know if the thread on my regulator will be 3/8
