New to mig welding

hello, just started mig welding today. i have done flux core but no real experiance. i have a lincoln pro 180t. i tried a butt weld and it looked good but penatration was bad, it took some time but i was able to break it off. see pics. any advice, i use my welder for my jeep, but when i finish my 20 in the service i want to do welding/fabrication. 9 more years cant wait . My setting were 4 speed d for pwr and 75/25 gas at 20.

Looks good.

Up the power to the next setting and increase wire speed a bit to get more penetration. You can also leave a bit of a gap. Adding a bit of weave to a corner weld will add a bit of heat too.

The Pro 180's are good machines; would be my choice if I bought new

Thanks for the tips i will do some more runs tommorrow. What did you mean by leave a gap?

Leave a 1/16" gap between two pieces. That cuts down the amount of parent metal at the weld and requires less heat.

Keep practiscing with a bit more amps like shenion suggested and you'll get there!
