Just purchased a new lincoln power mig 140 C and over the weekend was attempting to weld some primer coated 3/16" thick steel channel. I ground off the primer where the ground clamp was attached and at the ends where I planned to weld. Each time I try to weld in this area the welding gun cable pushes out of the machine and the wire is burned in two prior to it entering the gun cable. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

do you mean that the torch cable is coming out of the machine entrance and the wire is burning off the case? need abetter explination
Yes, the cable comes out of the machine with very little effort. I can remove it with my thumb and finger very easily. The thumb screw is tight.
I must be missing something.
