Hi there,
I’ve been MIG welding sporadically since 2005 when I bought a very rotten VW camper, mainly 3mm and thinner and thought I’d have a go at arc welding for the thicker stuff (my MIG is a Clarke 135TE).
Picked up a well used Parweld XTI161DV on eBay and have used about 10 rods. Here’s a picture of the last couple of beads (Bohler AWS 6013 3.2s on 8mm plate at 120A). I need a lot more practice but am now getting the rods stuck less frequently. I didn’t have time to clean off the mill scale but will get a load of plates properly prepped for next time. I did manage to remember to double back to cover the arc strike but need to suss out how to stop.
Any comments on the current/travel speed/technique etc much appreciated. Thanks.
