TIG Filler Rod storage tube holder by ConfusedTA
I just knocked myself up a quick basic trolley for my R-Tech Welding TIG welder to free up some bench space, and wanted to store all the filler rods a bit nicer than just lobbing the tubes in a corner. The filaments come in a 32mm diameter, 1m long see-through tube, with rubber end-caps on each...www.thingiverse.com
I may take a look tomorrow and maybe blow the dust off the printer
I hadn't realised how widespread this 300mm length nonsense was about! I refuse to buy in that length. What a waste.Twice the waste?
You won't want to try tig brazing then. They tend to sell the rods in 300mm lengths. I have been known to feed brazing rods with a pair of pliers to get my money's worth.
I have a 90deg elbow fitted to mine. Search 90' bottle adaptor on here, I would link it but on the tablet and don't know how to!Wondering if I can get an elbow or something so I can have the gauges as per the pic,?

I used sewer pipes made of PP, 30 mm in diameter + end caps + plastic fasteners to the walls. The required tube length and diameter are optional.Well, royal mail didn't deliver what I was waiting for today, so apart from polishing my helmet, I 3D printed a TIG torch stand and I have an idea for the filler rod storage.
Here's the idea for the filler rod storage. When I made the new kitchen, I made a drawer insert for all the spices, this means the old aluminium spice jar holders were surplus to requirements and ended up on the scrap shelf.
Here they are with the filler rods, just laying on the bench at the moment, I think they originally came from IKEA about 15 years ago. I'll obviously be mounting them vertically, I need to put a base on one of them, a bit of wood will do for now but it may become my first aluminium job once I'm good enough, could be a while..

The spark is coming tomorrow to install 2 x 16 amp and 1 x 32A commando sockets, fit the type D MCB, a couple more 13A sockets and look at a couple more jobs. And its the start of the monthly open weekend at the local brewery so looks like Saturday will be fire it up day.
I thought I had more tungstens than I thought I ordered. I inadvertently bought some 2.0mm tungstens, it was unintentional. For the cost of a few quid, I thought I may as well buy collets to match, seems 2.0mm is not widely used over here, but I managed to get the bits eventually.
Just wondering if there is any connection with an absent missus and a new TIG . HmmmmIts arriving today, supposedly about now
So, I'm getting the workshop ready. I did have my MIG on the left of the bench, and I'm right handed, there was a gap to the left of the bench when I bought it and I didn't think about it again, until a couple of days ago.

So that had to change, it meant lifting the Warco mill/drill so out with the engine crane. I then moved the whole bench about 3 foot to the left.

Then a good going over with the cup brush then DA on the 10mm steel bench tops. Lots of panel wipe later and the MIG moved to the right leaving a space for the TIG.

I was bored waiting so cleaned up a bit of rusty old scrap, it could do with a bit more scrubbing yet. Also found some acetone and I have a few brand new wire brushes in the drawer. Just mild steel to begin with, ali and SS may be a little while yet but I have some scrap pieces waiting.

Hold the press! It arrived, no, not the carp wine rack, the welder

The next bit may take a while as I'm on work call all afternoon and I'm looking after the kids while my missus is working darn sarth.
Cheers
Andy
She's back now, she's just used one of the packing boxes to put a poorly chicken in, the other cardboard boxes she's using as mulch as soon as I've powered it up and know it works. She's got used to my purchasesJust wondering if there is any connection with an absent missus and a new TIG . Hmmmm
Looks familiarIf you are wondering what happens if you turn the gas off, go and get a pizza, then forget to turn it back on, you get this and a small shower of sparks as the end of your tungsten disintegrates

Where did you get the acetone from, its good stuff, hard to get in N.Ireland I use brake cleanerBits are beginning to appear, first some acetone, I was running low so bought 4 litres, it comes in handy for all sorts of stuff and buying in bulk is much cheaper.

Then the 90 degree bend for the gas bottle appeared so I can put the gas meter vertical and see the gauges.

I'll mess with the exact orientation of the gauges once the flow meter arrives, but looks good, thanks @RichardM for the link.
