thanks for the reply Richard and sorry if I am jumping on someone else thread here but just needed to ask the question as its a good few pound to invest and you want to get it correct picking your welder is there anything else out there Richard I should think about along the same budget but with a bit more grunt and to be honest if I have to adjust the knobs manually I really dont mind that as I dont really know about all this just enter the thickness spell away you go.

Well yeah it's a 3 grand machine so there are lots of good brands out there for the Same money, I don't know what you mean more grunt? Any more grunt than 220 amps and your heading into bigger supply's. The whole plate thickness thing is not a Tig feature I know of. You'll get to know the settings through usage. It's straight forward enough.

is that can bus compatibility thing got around by ssc?

Nope your right they can't make one for the 2200i I was thinking about a heliarc.

"Grunt" is power is amps is what I meant,So what you are saying is that with a single phase machine the max amps you are looking at is 200-220 and anything after that is going to have to be 3 phase supply. I talked to a esab agent today and he maybe willing to set up a machine for me to have a play with it I think it will be the ta33 unit.

Kemppi and EWM do a 230amp single phase but yeah that's your limit on 13-16amp supply. After that it's a higher 240v fuse rating or 3 phase.
