New tig help

first of all, hello! seems like a very helpful, firendly forum.

Im just about to buy this tig welder second hand, its a GYSMI 140 high frequency tig.

Im not sure if it takes full size bottles or disposable. If it does take full size bottles, is the any way of adapting it to take disposables? as it would save me a lot of hassle with rentals etc..
I work in Maintenance, and will mostly be using Mig, but the Tig will be on standby for thin metal jobs and hobby use.

Apreciate your help, and I hope to have a good read through all the topics here. Should keep me busy!

Hi Phil, You will need a cylinder of pure Argon for most TIG work you do. Argon Helium or Nitrogen Hydrogen are available for more specialised work They come in 2 sizes and you will have to get them through a registered supplier and pay rent on each cylinder. Unless you know anything different..!!!. What thickness and type of materials are you going to be welding?

It will be mostly for sheet metal work, and fine Stainless. Nothing much above 4mm
It wont be used as much as the Mig, so I was hoping, rather then renting bottles, to just run it off disposable bottles.

Can anyone tell me how much rental would be for Argon? (small bottle) if I had to do it that way. I am new to this, as I always welded in a workshop with everything wired up and maintained by the technician.

I am in roughly the same position ,only requiring occasional TIG use for stainless. I have been informed by the people at Northern Tools that their disposable bottles can be attached via a standard regulator. Their bottles are around £8.00
