Hisense prices

Not a Vestel clone, but a similar setup. Disposable.

Only LG and Samsung sell sets of their own manufacture. All others as far as I know are clones of supermarket sets with fancy badges.

Another vote for Richer Sounds, what I liked about the extended warranty was it included collection if it needed to go for repair which with todays huge screens is useful.

LG IMHO is the only option

I have a 55” LG adorning my chimney breast, seems to work well enough. I think it was at the cheaper end of the price range too.

Well, they used to when my nephews worked there during uni holidays and they had Summer jobs there. No idea if it's still a practise, but I'd imagine it's still done.

My trade supplier is / was Hughes and they also sell to retail (at similar prices to my trade ) so I would suggest buying there or Amazon for service and backup.

I remember Currys used to have a row of four identical TVs showing the same picture source in an attempt to sell their ridiculously-expensive SCART cables, without noting that the one on the end using the HDMI cable was bound to be better than all of them. I wonder how many people actually paid £80 for a cable.

I make a point of trying to avoid Amazon if I possibly can, just because of the whole "are you sure that you don't want to not cancel not signing up to Amazon Prime" rubbish that they seem to want to do any time I want to buy something.

I am a bit late to the party, as usual.
We have over the years installed hundreds of TVs into office meeting rooms and huddle spaces mostly Samsung or LG. I used to favour Samsung because all the HDMIs were either pocketed on the back and facing down or on the sides, LG used to have at least one HDMI sticking out the back which made mounting on a thin wall bracket difficult. Both Samsung and LG would last five or more years used five days a week, eight hours a day, more than that we would put in commercial screens for public display applications, that would almost always be Samsung with onboard media player or connected to a signage live box.

Over the years one customer bidding for a Sony account and swapped out a Samsung 64 (?)" for the Sony equivalent, the build quality and OS was not up to the Samsung's. Another had a Hisence installed for the same reason, for the price I was impressed with what you get but quite honestly if you can spend a bit more you should.

Can't find a dedicated TV remote thread but this seems to have served its purpose so I will ask in here.
I have a small dinlux TV for my grandson to watch.
Sadly we have mislaid the controller.
It has no buttons on this TV for some reason.

I have tried the android remote apps in the play store but it seems it will only work with smart tv's via WiFi.

Is it not possible to use an app to control a TV directly?

Another LG OLED here, when I was looking my priority was PQ, the OLED was far super to the QLED at similar prices.

No. Put the make and model into Amazon search and you can get a replacement for little money.

I had a 4 year old lg which stopped working, took it to a local repair place, no replacement boards available. The chap there said Panasonic are the best to repair so that's what I buy now.

What he told you is now out of date. Panasonic are now Vestel clones, just the same as you would buy in Asda for half the price with a generic badge on the front. The vast majority of brands that we grew up respecting are now the same, tragically. Only LG and Samsung still manufacture their own sets.

Some like Hisense are made by an equally bad but slightly cheaper outfit in Slovakia. Sony I think are Flextel with dreadful Android OS installed and a reputation that stinks.

Yep, Panasonic are no longer what they were, my LG was a replacement for a Panasonic Plasma, which at the time was very good. I would have stuck with them but unfortunately now Vestel rubbish as AJL says.

I think at the budget end I’d take Hisense over a Vestel though.

Yep. My next door neighbour was a TV engineer.
The shop he worked for was a Panasonic dealer.
In fact I have an old Panasonic but he said almost nothing is repaid now.
Mine was repaired 3 times always the same fault, not latching on.

But the shop having been there since Phllips 2000 video recorders went out of business as repairs were a major part of their business.
Gary carried on doing a few callouts but after a while even boards were not available let alone fixing board level faults, parts just are unobtainable..

As it turns out I found it 20 mins ago whilst looking for a blue car behind the radiator.
But these apps all say universal remote until you install it then it asks for wifi. Lol
