really no excuse for speeding and then crying at being caught
rubbish...any traffic in towns or in residential streets and roads is going far to fast at 30 MPH imhoIf speed limits were set for sound reason I would be agreeing with you 100%. Unfortunately, they are set for political and revenue reasons by and large. Speed limits decrease when the income from speeding fines reduces, to keep the flow going. If everyone drove at 19MPH, the speed limit would be set at 15MPH.
I wonder if the 10% plus one still apply??
looking at the info it seem not.
so if my car or bike under read I'm ********.lol
so I'll drive/ride around town at 25mph.lol
I thought the speed limiter on my new motor was a gimmick, it's looking more like a must have accessory by the minute. As well as the changes to the penalties for using a mobile device, from April the penalties for speeding will increase. 3 bands where the minimum fines will be calculated from your weekly earnings:
Band A = 50% of your weekly earnings
Band B = 100% of your weekly earnings
Band C = 150% of your weekly earnings

Agreed, one of our young lads got caught recently, he says he's not sure if they got him doing over 100 or when he'd slowed down to 90 odd (in a 70), which means he knows exactly what he was doing!
They reduced the speed limit on the way our of our village. Not to generate income, there's no speed camera, it was to reduce the number of accidents at a fairly busy junction. If speed limits were set for sound reason I would be agreeing with you 100%. They make excuses like "I was perfectly in control", but what they fail to realise is that other drivers would not be expecting someone to be doing that, which is what causes the danger from such antics. I fully support the instant ban for so doing.
I object to people being done for 33MPH in a 30 on an unpopulated country road etc.**
** I would just like to mention that I have had a clean licence for well over 30 years.

There's always the 'defence' about having to watch your speedo instead of the road.
Really, there's absolutely no valid excuse for breaking the speed limit (you agreed to the terms, live with it).
couldn't agree more with the last post. I've never seen a mobile speed camera outside a school at 9am! Seen plenty after a big open road reduces from 60 to 30 though. If a more targeted approach was used instead of get as many as you can then Joe public would be a lot more understanding.
Does it matter for what reason they are set or even at what speed?
They are set and that's that.
No they don't. If you are 1 mph over the limit you can be prosecuted.
